Yes, This Is a Bridge
The first time we crossed the Demerara Bridge I had to take a picture of it. It's a floating bridge, made of several jointed sections loosely covered with fitted metal plates. The plates aren't welded on, or at least not on the driving surface, and you could see them bend and flip up when especially heavy vehicles rattled over them. The whole structure is held in place by great cables drilled into the soggy riverbed, and every once in a while they break free and the bridge floats partway downriver and has to be recaptured. But for a developing country, this really is an engineering marvel.
