A Thousand Points of Light
Diwali, the "Festival of Lights," is a Hindu festival that is celebrated in Guyana the day after Halloween. Don't ask me what it's all about, because I would probably get it wrong, but it has something to do with Latchmi bringing light to the world or something. Anyway, the real festival was held in Canje, nearby, but I got this great picture of a typical Diwali decoration. You take a bamboo pole (or, in this case, two) and split it down the center into three wings, then tie each piece down into an arch. Then you adhere many tiny pots to the bamboo stems with mud or cement, fill the pots with oil, and light them afire come sundown.
